LONDON, 15 NOVEMBER 2023: Premier events management company, Camm & Hooper, is delighted to announce the addition of Platform Glasgow to its growing and iconic portfolio of venues.

Part of its national growth strategy, this latest acquisition will enable Camm & Hooper to attract a wider national and international client base, while providing new employment and partnership opportunities for members of the Glasgow community as it has plans to grow across the region.

We are excited to add this iconic Glasgow venue to our line-up and look forward to continuing its success under the leadership of Scott McCormick and his dedicated team.”

Scott McCormick, the Managing Director of Platform, will continue to oversee operations. Sharing positive sentiment, Scott said: “We are excited to embark on this new chapter with Camm & Hooper. Their reputation for excellence and commitment to creating unique experiences aligns with our vision for Platform to establish itself as a leading venue delivering unique events for our blue-chip client base.

Platform looks forward to hosting an even wider range of diverse and memorable events in the heart of Glasgow, and it is our intention to grow the portfolio in Scotland over the next 3 years, and I am delighted to support Derick in his plans for the growth of the Camm & Hooper Brand.”

Featuring six beautifully restored arches across 35,000 st ft, Platform provides a flexible capacity for up to 600 seated guests across three arches or 1800 standing guests. It has served as the backdrop for a variety of events, from intimate private gatherings to large-scale events, cementing itself as a crucial part of Glasgow’s community.

In adding new venues to its portfolio, Camm & Hooper always set out to protect the heart and soul of the establishment and its core team. As such Platform will remain untouched, where its distinctive character and deep-rooted connection to the community will continue to thrive as always.

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, and at all times of the year. Each wedding is a unique celebration that manifests itself in a variety of magical ways. What is to be one of the best days of a bride and groom’s life should be a stress-free and a carefree experience. But often taking on the planning, organisation and delivering such a special event can seem like a daunting challenge. That’s where the Camm & Hooper magic makers step in. Our dedicated wedding teams are here to take the worry away and leave you with nothing but the best experience.

We sat down with one of our talented event curators, Faye Chillingworth, to discuss her journey at Camm & Hooper, and just how she helps bring magical weddings to life.

Can you tell us about your journey into the hospitality industry?

I often like to tell people that it was the hospitality industry that found me, and not the other way around. My mother was working as head chef in a hotel 17 years ago, and I was looking for a job. She managed to help get me employed there and during that time I really discovered a love for delivering a service that makes people’s day. Since then, I have had a wonderful journey through the hospitality industry, working in everything from B&Bs and catering, all the way through to castles and operations. Finding Camm & Hooper felt like finding a home, there’s a sense of collaboration and determination to really shake up the events scene that is so exciting to me.

How involved are you in wedding events at Camm & Hooper?

I have the pleasure of being heavily involved in wedding planning, thanks to how closely I work across all of our stunning venues. The venues all offer something very different, but equally as spectacular which helps to keep things fresh and exciting. At the stage that we first meet the lucky couple, we essentially become a part of their wedding.

Working with brides and grooms is different to working with our other guests and clients. They need a little more love and care. And why shouldn’t they… it’s the most important day of their lives!

Can you tell us a little more about your overall role as an event curator?

I absolutely love my role. As an event curator, I am introduced to the client at the most creative and imaginative point in the relationship. We will work together to conceptualise their event, touching on everything from food, décor, music, lighting and beyond. Throughout this stage we will produce a document that is a meticulous blueprint of the event itself. It will be a detailed guide to everything happening, crossing all the departments from catering to décor to entertainment. So much work goes into this part of the planning that I’d like to think that someone off the street could pick it up and easily understand how to deliver the day.

What trends are you seeing in modern weddings?

From recent experience, it is apparent that a lot more couples are looking for a relaxed, family orientated and informal wedding day. It is more often than not that they are choosing feasting menus for family self-service at tables rather than a formal three course dinner. They are opting for personalised cocktails rather than prosecco. It’s a great way for them to make their day unique in every way.

What would you say to someone considering using an event partner for their wedding?

When asked ‘why use an event planner?’, my response is always…why not? Who wouldn’t want someone to get involved and help with the journey, relieve stress and make things easier? An event planner is there to guide the soon to be newlyweds and help in any way possible. Most of our couples have never been married before, it’s like buying a house… unless you have someone to guide you, how do you know where to begin? With Camm & Hooper an event planner is part of the package, there is no additional cost for this service. We are a part of the journey from beginning to end, here to help with any questions or worries along the way, and give sound advice.

What is your advice to people starting their wedding journey.

If I had to give some top tips for when it comes to wedding planning, I’d probably start by saying don’t be afraid to ask questions. As a couple you are not expected to know all the answers and have all of the information. Let an event planner help and guide you along the way. Lean on us!

Final thoughts on the future of events?

The future of events are looking fabulous! Creativity, imagination and dreams are making events and weddings ever the more authentic and spectacular. There are so many more options available for everything now, no two events or weddings are ever the same. Each one is completely unique. That’s why I love doing what I do and I hope to spread that excitement far and wide.

In the dynamic world of events, where weddings stand as the pinnacle of life’s grand celebrations, Camm & Hooper are committed to bringing your unique vision to life. As Faye aptly puts it, weddings are evolving, becoming deeply personalised reflections of each couple’s essence. With Camm & Hooper, your wedding journey transforms into a vibrant tapestry woven with creativity, imagination, and endless possibilities.

Summer party season is here, and it’s time to turn your vision of a fantastic summer celebration into a reality. Planning and organizing a summer party can be an exciting yet daunting task, but fear not!

Jessica Cater-Barnes, our esteemed head event curator, is here to guide you towards hosting an unforgettable summer party that will be a resounding success for both you and your guests. With her wealth of experience, she shares valuable tips to help you create a truly remarkable summer soirée.

1. Define Your Objectives

Before diving into the planning process, take a moment to clarify your objectives. Are you aiming to create networking opportunities or provide pure entertainment? Consider how you want your guests to feel and ask yourself relevant questions to define the essence of your event, establishing how you want your guests to feel. Effective communication is key to ensuring your vision is fulfilled.

It is also essential to have an idea of budget in advance. You can then look at your non-negotiable areas and where you might want to scale back if needed. For some people, the entertainment is the far most important element, for others it will be a great spread of flavoursome food and drink. We’re familiar with the well-known saying ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’. This is also true for party planning. Keep the number of decision makers succinct and each with a clear purpose.

2. Choose the Perfect Venue

Finding the right venue sets the tone for your summer party. This can be a time-consuming task so ask for help in collating the information you need, or work with an experienced party curator to save you valuable time.

Decide what you want from a venue, consider the space you will need. Do you need to find somewhere to accommodate a games area, a dance floor or lots of seating?

We all love a sunny summer party on a roof top or terrace, but it is prudent to consider the (not always so) Great British Summer. A rainy day on a roof top can leave no place to hide if you haven’t thought about a wet weather contingency plan.

A summer party inside can still feel like you are outside with the right venue. If you have an inside location with a lot of space and natural light, or a balcony, you are on to a winner. Create an outside-inside feel with biophilia or deckchairs on a mock beach set up. You’ll stay dry during any summer showers.

Lastly, listen to your venue specialists. They are experienced in working with the space and work directly with you to make your vision come to life, the best advice will come from them!

3. Delightful Food and Drink – keep it seasonal!

Get the summer vibe cemented as soon as your guests arrive with a mouth-watering summer cocktail to welcome your guests.

Aperol spritz and Pimm’s come as standard so experiment and do something special to wow your invitees. Cocktails can be created to fit your brand colour palette or included cocktail toppers with key messages or photos. These can spark a sense of fun and great photo opportunities. Who hasn’t snapped a photo of a delicious and picture-perfect cocktail before?

Remember to produce alcohol free cocktails too. Gone are the days when orange juice was the only alternative option. Be creative with infusions – watermelon and mint cocktails are extremely popular and so refreshing. Make sure alcohol-free cocktails are as readily available as any alcoholic options. Guests not drinking alcohol shouldn’t feel excluded or an afterthought.

Grazing stations are a great way to surprise your guests at a summer party. An array of cheeses, breads, vegan, vegetarian and meat small plate dishes mean everyone can have a bit of what they fancy. Don’t just produce vegan dishes for the small handful of vegans, create something so good that everyone will want to eat it. There are so many options now. Pile up your grazing station with seasonal, colourful produce and it often becomes a talking point and Insta icon. This is the perfect way to allow your guests to graze all night and to cut down on food waste. Interactive food stations also add entertainment and education to an event.

I’ve come across event hosts thinking that they won’t order food if it’s more of a focused drinks reception. This is a big mistake. When people have been drinking alcohol, they want food!

4. Effective Time Management

To avoid last-minute stress and ensure a smooth experience, plan ahead as much as possible. Set realistic time guidelines and document your tasks month by month, week by week, and day by day. Ideally, aim to have everything planned and finalized around one month before the event, allowing room for adjustments or unforeseen changes.

Consider the flow and structure of your party, determining the timing for drink service, entertainment, speeches, and other activities to keep guests engaged throughout the event. Arriving early on the day of the party provides ample time for setup and allows you to relax before the guests arrive.

5. Embrace the Magic

Above all, remember to enjoy your own event. After the extensive planning and coordination, it’s easy to get caught up in the small details. However, the true essence of an event is bringing people together and creating a memorable experience. Focus on the bigger picture, savour the moment, and ensure your guests leave with cherished memories.

With these expert tips, your summer party will be an unforgettable occasion that captivates all who attend. So, let the summer festivities begin and revel in the success of your remarkable event!

According to the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the hospitality industry and food service sector are among the largest contributors to food waste in the UK. Food spoilage accounts for 21%, food preparation for 45%, and uneaten food for 34% of the sector’s waste.

Stop Food Waste Day (April 26th) aims to increase awareness and encourage global efforts to meet the targets of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030. At Camm & Hooper, we are committed to conducting business in a responsible and ethical manner that benefits our stakeholders and the wider community. We strive to minimise our environmental impact by implementing sustainable practices and reducing waste, energy, and water usage. We also invest in education and employment initiatives in our local communities and ensure that our suppliers operate ethically and sustainably.

We recently spoke with our Group Head Chef, Cristina Maia, about our efforts to reduce food waste in our kitchens. Cristina believes that sustainable practices should be adopted as a shared mentality by everyone, from clients to the kitchen. To achieve this, everyone needs to be educated on the subtle changes that can be made to reduce food waste.

How does Camm & Hooper combat food waste in their kitchens?

We believe effective communication is key to reducing food waste in our kitchens. We work closely with our curators, chefs, and clients to ensure we don’t over-order ingredients. To achieve this, we ask our clients to confirm their numbers and dietary requirements ten days before their event. We also believe that sustainability shouldn’t be limited to the kitchens, it should be embraced by everyone.

We do our best to minimise waste by creating zero-waste products using leftover fruits and vegetables. These include fermented and pickled goods, jams, chutneys, and other innovative ways to preserve our food and make it last longer.

Where does Camm & Hooper produce come from?

Camm & Hooper takes pride in sourcing its produce from reliable, sustainable, and primarily UK-based suppliers. We closely work with our suppliers to obtain locally-grown, seasonal ingredients, which helps us minimise our carbon footprint. Whenever we need additional ingredients, we turn to Borough Market or local farmers to secure high-quality, responsibly-sourced products.

What’s your go-to recipe for reducing food waste each week?

We like getting creative with leftovers and making chutneys or pickling veggies for a longer fridge life. Plus, we make dishes that use up any ingredients we have on hand to feed our people.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in the kitchen?

It’s so important to prioritise quality over quantity. We create a lot of food stations where food waste is inevitable as it’s much more difficult to judge how much people will want to eat on the day. In these cases, we make sure we are monitoring how fast the food is being consumed so we can be on hand to top up if necessary. Making food to order is not easy when it comes to large event groups, so we just need to make sure we are all really on the ball with only making food people want to eat.

What are your plans for becoming more sustainable?

Being sustainable with our food is about thinking outside of the kitchen and everyone should take responsibility for learning how to be eco-friendly. Not everyone has this mindset, so it’s great to see what others are doing to remind us that we can make a change by educating ourselves.

My idea for the future is to have a micro herb garden. It’s a practical and sustainable approach to growing our own ingredients. I’m always on the lookout for new green practices to adopt, and I think small changes can have a big impact.

The iconic red neon sign has been reimagined as an OXO2 feature wall among bursts of pastel colours, native wildflowers, playful picnic bunting, butterfly ornaments, and iconic London paraphernalia.

Of course, we understand that you might want to add your own personal touches, too, or create something unique just for you. Either way, we’ll find the perfect solution.

This week the annual London Summer Events Show, produced by Story Events, took place at Banking Hall – Part of the Camm & Hooper Collection.

For the events and hospitality industry, returning to normalcy post pandemic has been a challenging journey but we can safely say that after the success of LSES2023, it’s clear the industry is having a resurgence with a 29% year-on-year increase!

The two-day event took place at Banking Hall in London on the 21st and 22nd of March with over 900 agents and corporate buyers in attendance.

With an exceptional food and drinks menu curated by our in-house chefs, this year’s menu showcased everything that Camm & Hooper has to offer across our portfolio of unique London venues. With a delicious menu that included the finest cocktails, sweet and savoury canapés, beautifully presented bowl food, and interactive food stations which took guests from a grab-and-go lunch to a modern afternoon tea, this year’s event menu was the ultimate crowd pleaser.

To celebrate such success, we are sharing some of our highlights from the fabulous two-day event:

Enchanting Cocktails from our liquid chef and infusion specialists

Camm & Hooper Wins Best Stand Design Voted By The Visitors!

Camm & Hooper proudly hosted and exhibited at the LSES23. As exhibitors, we used vibrant, hand-drawn sketches of our newest venue OXO2, showing the transformation of the blank canvas events space into ‘Summer on the South Bank’. Read more about this exclusive seasonal offer here!

The OXO2 stand voted by visitors as their favourite was dressed with stunning visuals paying homage to the history of the iconic OXO tower, reinforced with the Camm & Hooper feel. We used neon lights, pastel colours, wildflowers and British summertime paraphernalia showcasing the perfect central London summer social with us.

OXO2 Goodie Box

Inspired by the curious history of the venue, our extraordinary team gifted sweet treats, crafted by our heart-of-house teams, as a glimpse of what we offer through our summer menus at our Summer on the South Bank pop-up. The OXO cube goodie boxes included lavender-infused gin and shortbread, and our executive chef’s famous petit fours. Lavender is one of the few and first native plants to grow by the River Thames, so naturally our fabulous South Bank venue had to nod to the locality with our food and drink following the promise to source seasonally, locally and sustainably.

What’s next?

The Camm & Hooper team have already started counting down the days to the next BIG event, where we’ll be formally relaunching Camm & Hooper. With an exciting invite list of agents, VIP shareholders, direct client bookers and all the friends we’ve managed to make along the way, this is one you won’t want to miss.

We’re showcasing all that we have to offer by honouring the legacy of the company, celebrating our 10-year anniversary and revealing what’s to come in the future.
